Via di Propaganda, 16 • Rome
Spagna is, perhaps unsurprisingly, focussed around the eponymous Piazza di Spagna. Along with the Trevi fountain, it’s one of the most visited sights in the entire city. Things weren’t always so auspicious – in the 16th century, the area was Rome’s red light district, but today it’s better known for the vine-covered romance of Via Margutta, home to Gregory Peck's impoverished journalist in Roman Holiday. Admire Balthus’s wall-painting techniques at Villa Medici, descend the Spanish Steps (built by the French, named for the nearby Spanish embassy), and visit the designer stores along Via del Babuino - named for the distinctive statue of the Greek deity Silenus. A little to the southeast, you’ll find the Via Veneto, which was immortalised in La Dolce Vita. While still synonymous with the glamorous film stars of the 60s, the street is no longer the social hub it once was, but there’s still a romantic nostalgia attached to it.
Fantastic Apartment and Location!!
Edoardo and his father went above and beyond regarding our stay. The apartment exceeded my expectations; every detail of the classical unit was accounted for. The floors and details were so well thought-out and expertly executed. Clean, spacious, excellent air conditioning in all rooms, quiet at night! And the location, FANTASTIC, located literally steps from Piazza di Spagna, and the main shopping avenues of Rome. We will definitely stay again here!
